We see the same big dipper in the same atmosphere.
Sometimes that don't matter I just wish you were here.
So that we could star gaze together
We could star in plays together
Metaphorically but at the same time not so much
Imagine magically just cant wait to feel your touch.
Whenever that is and whenever that will be
It's just a good day in the the future I foresee.
I broke it down in an analysis
Never nervous in a paralysis.

This is a work in progress i suppose.

And here's me at work this one day:

10:18-13:33 GIRLS ALASKAN HIGH KICK

15:15 Yvonne Kasayuli (right) Allison Lake (left) Interview

15:25 How are you guys feeling today?

                Good.

15:29 Tired?

                Not really.

15:35 Who’s your coach and how does he or she train you to do so well?

Harley Sundown, David Green. He made us exercise a lot. Stretched out a lot and worked on our events.

16:44 Where’s your family from?

Scammon  Bay. Hooper Bay.

17:27 What age did you start at and who or what got you into NYO?

4th grade. I seen my sisters. My older sister joined and I watched. Seemed interesting so I tried.

I started in 4th grade too. Just something I enjoyed instead of staying in school.

18:26 What event or events did you compete in and did you do well?

We did our events yesterday. I did Alaskan high kick. I kicked 64. And I did kneel jump and I went 29 inches.

20:42 What do your friends think about NYO?

It’s a lot of fun and. Some of my friends think its hard but I tell them its easy and fun. I try to let them join, but they joined but they quit. They say its too hard.

21:18 What do you eat on the day of competition?

Fast food. Fast food. Teriyaki chicken.

21:53 How does it make you feel?

The food? Haha. It’s okay because it’s good.

22:08 What do you like about participating in NYO?

                Competing against others.

22:18 What keeps you motivated?

                The team. And coaches.

23:12 Any questions or comments?

                Native Pride. (with a  pose)

23:15 What do you plan to do after this is all over?

Spend all my money. Go home and relax.

23:42- 24:05 “Second day of NYO!” (group)

29:38 Jonelle Jones interview

30:15 What kind of food do you eat on the day of competition?

I just had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich earlier. That was my breakfast. And I had milk and a Rockstar.

30:35 What do you like about participating in NYO? What keeps you motivated?

I just like working out and practicing at Clark and whatever. It’s a good work out. Because you’re like moving and your active and it’s better than. If I didn’t join NYO I wouldn’t have this body. NO I’m just kidding. I’d probably be big like my sister. I dunno.

32:52 Any jokes of any kind?

Today I was drinking milk and you know how it says “Got Milk”? Well yesterday I seen someone wearing a shirt that said “Got Seal Oil?” And I was like what the heck that’s weird.

00:00 Meda Warrior interview

01:05 I broke my foot the day the day before state. The ball in the bone right here that supports the base right here is broken so I’m going into surgery on Monday to go get the bones screwed back together. It hurts a little. They got me on hydrucodion and ibuprofen right now.

01:54 I was riding my 4 wheeler and my dog couldn’t keep up and she fell into a hole. And she was stuck on her back. She’s a pretty old dog. 17 years old I’ve known her ever since I was born. And I went into the hole and tripped over a stick. My foot stayed behind the stick while the rest of me kept falling. And that’s how I broke it pretty much. The ditch was about 4 to 5 feet deep. My dog made it out okay, but I came out with a broken ankle.

02:39 I’m on Wasilla High.  I was going to be competing in toe kick, Alaskan high kick, and Indian stick pull. I can’t compete because I can’t really balance on my feet or at all or anything.

03:33 Don’t go four wheeling the day before state. Or take any risks that’s going to break your ankle before state.

03:45 I started NYO when I was about 12 years old and I got into NYO because I thought it was really cool. And it helped me out with my fitness and mostly just to get together with everybody and say hi to everyone.

04:09 Yeah I’ve made a few friends here and there. It was pretty cool at first. At first I didn’t really know anybody but then I started talking around and everything. Saying hi to everyone.

04:27 What do your friends think of NYO?

They all love NYO. They think it’s a great social thing.

04:39 In NYO I like the competition and all the friends that you make every year and all that.

04:55 After state’s over I think I want to go to camp. Just to hang out and everything.

05:09 The doctor said my leg was going to be healed at least 3 months. I’m hoping it’d be healed in 3 months because I              want to get back into NYO as soon as possible.

06:01 Lindsay Merculief interview.

06:39 This is my first year of judging NYO. Last year I broke the record for wrist carry. Went 662 feet. Very proud of myself.

6:51 Do you think anyone’s going to beat your record?

                Someday.

7:01 How does it feel judging?

Well I think it’s very wonderful because I get to meet a bunch of new participants. Some people look up to me. And yeah I’m having a lot of fun. Came here to have a lot of fun and I’m enjoying it. Every bit of it. I hope to come here next year. And judge more.

8:39 How long have you been doing NYO?

                Since 2003.

8:43 Your event is wrist carry, right? Why wrist carry?

It’s the only event I can do my best on. I didn’t choose it. My body did.

11:47 Chris Komikoff interview (It was an alright interview, but too much background noise)

16:40 Nickolai Converce interview

18:30 What age did you start at and who or what got you into NYO?

My friends. I started at the age of 17.

18:43 How old are you now?

                17. It’s fun. I just came to have fun. I like it. I’m going to go out next year.

20:17 How does it feel being here at the Sullivan Arena for NYO Statewide?

Good. It feels good. I was excited and nervous. Didn’t think I was gonna do good at all. Didn’t think I was going to place.

21:40 What do you like about participating in NYO?

I don’t know finding it to meet people. Trying something that I’ve never tried before, so it was new to me. I don’t know it just feels good to do good. Wish I could do better. Just that I guess.

22:42 What do you plan to do after this is all over?

Practice more. I don’t know. Just not hard. Every once in a while.

My coach is Michael Bernard and he trains us by practicing doing calisthenics and running

03.06 is there different training methods for different events?

Uh yeah there is like for like uh doing the kicks you want to stretch out a lot probably and usually for the pulls like the Eskimo stick pull and stuff I know a lot of guys would do body work and stuff

03.22 could you tell us something interesting about where you’re from

uh yeah I’m originally from Kenai and I was born there and its really a nice place there

Uh I don’t know just I know one day these guys came to my school and they were trying to get kids to do the junior nyo I just thought it was really cool so I went there and met david Thomas and he really inspired me to do it

05.07 when you first started did you have doubts about yourself?

Uh yeah I did I know when I first started doin one foot I kinda really didnt do very good I kinda thought I was really bad but I just kept practicing and I got a lot better

05.22 pratice and then um encouragement  everyone here encourages you to do it and stuff they give you tips and it makes you feel like you can do it really goo atmosphere

05.55 not everyone’s trying to be better they’re trying to be better but they’re not like I don’t like you your team and stuff it’s like they like meeting each other and stuff it’s really cool

06.27 so whats your favorite event?

My favorite Right now it’s seal hop (why’s that) because you don’t have to be going really fast you just have to keep a steady pace its just a lot of endurance you don’t have to be super flexible or really strong you just got to keep a slow pace and keep going

06.55 what do your friend think about nyo?

A lot of them think  that it’s I don’t know kinda weird cause they kinda ask why don’t you join track or basketball and im like I don’t know I just like it here maily because of the atmosphere not everyone’s trying to compete and be mad at each other and stuff you know it’s really cool

07.41 so what keeps you motivated to keep going?

Uh motivated? Probably to make my parents proud cause they like to watch me and stuff (are they here now) they will be trying to make it down

07.57 do you tell others about nyo?

Yeah I usually tell all my friends at school I try to get a lot of people involved because there isn’t a lot of people in kenai that are involved in it there is maybe about 20 I would like to have a lot of more kids there yeah

08.19 how do you go about telling them?

I usually show them or tell them I like to demonstrate sometimes ill show them the one foot and they would be like kinda like whoa what is that you did a little kick then you landed on your foot and stuff

08.33 do you have any questions comments jokes of any kind

jokes nah just uh have fun and show a lot of sportsmanship that’s probably the biggest thing here sportsmanship

08.46 so what do you plan to do after nyo is over?

Uh probably just keep practicing at my house probably not as intense as the practices with everybody else just try to stay in shape (so are you gonna go to weio?) I was hoping to if I can get a ride but yeah

Mister Morrison and coach cockerham and they’re good coaches and they show me skills tryin hard

09.48 is there different training methods for different events?

Yeah like what our coach showed us for the Alaskan high kick was way different from what I saw david do it and everyone else they did it really good they’re all getting vertical I didn’t know how to do that until they showed me a different way I guess every team has a different technique  and Im just tryin to see from them because they have more experience

10.16 could you explain or tell us something interesting about where you’re from?

Oh it snows a lot and it not a very fun town but nyo is a very big sport there (where are you from) valdez ak

10.52 how often do you practice?

We practice about 4 days a week for about a month and a half and I guess maybe two hours (do you think that’s enough) um I guess it depends an the events some take more than others depends on how hard of an effort you put into it I think I could have gotten more practices in considering this is my first year

11.17 do you practice on your own

uh I try I do the weight lifting and conditioning by myself but for the events I use the schools ball and everything so just at home and at school

11.36 (what made you start doing nyo)

family and just something to keep me out of trouble in school keep my grades up there’s a lot of people here looked like fun so I joined

11.55 so are you going to continue to do nyo

yeah I love it its great

12.07 when you first started the games did you have doubts about yourself and your ablilty to do well?

Yeah very big doubts I saw a lot of people  a lot of big people so I thought I was able to do as good but I just try my best practice

12.23 so did you make some new friends here?

Yeah pretty a lot of people met new people from different places in Alaska so yeah I met a lot of my friends (so how’s that like) kinda shy I don’t really know many people except for my team but once you get to know everybody its a lot better

12.32 what do you like about participating in nyo?

What do I like about it? The people cause seeing other people do things seeing how good they do I like to see them do it and I watch it and I want to be like that I want to be able to get as high up as other people do and I read about what the events are for like what they did it for like the stick pull was for like pulling seals out of the water for hunting and its something I want to do

14.08 do you tell other people about nyo?

Yeah (who do you tell) I tell my family my friends just anybody I talk to on a normal basis (when you tell them about nyo do you demonstrate) if they ask to see what it is or they don’t know ill demonstrate it for them yeah(does it usually get them…) yeah they think its pretty cool they wish they could do it I mean that’s how I was I wish I could so it so I tried it

14.38 what do you plan to do after nyo is over?

After nyo is over? (yeah) just keep practicing join some summer sports and probably go fishing again  and wait for next season

14.53 any comments jokes shout outs

yeah valdez Alaska is the best bring home the gold someday

15.04 tape ends it goes to old west high footage

Today was an awesome day. I enjoy my work. And today I went on the radio. KRUA 88.1 FM The Edge. I freestyled and picked out all the music for the MEDIAK radio hour. I'm gonna go on the air again next monday at 3pm. Maybe record it. There was 6 mediak kids there at the station, so it was fun behind the scenes and what not. Righteous. Solid. Wicked. Click it or ticket. grab the cricket. Grab it from my hand and then lick it. It gives you good luck so we can kick it. In the crossroads. With the frogs and the lost toads. As the story unfolds. Suspense so thick you can chop it with an axe. Tag you're it and no tag backs. Peace. I'm outta here.
